In 1986, Carmon and Al Snedica moved their family from New York to Connecticut. Their children were Phillip, Bradley, Alan Jr., and Jennifer.

Phillip had Hodgkin's lymphoma and needed treatment at a nearby hospital, so the family needed somewhere affordable and close.

They found a house.

And then the house started calling their son by name.

THE BASEMENT

It started with the basement.

There were tubes. Jars. Blades. A rusty sink. A strange table. A platform with chains that looked like it had been used to lift bodies. Drainage pits.

Then Carmon asked the landlord the question that probably should have been answered before they signed anything.

“Did this used to be a funeral home?”

Yes.

It had.

The landlord explained that the strange equipment had been left behind. (hey, what y’all still waiting there? Get the hell out!)

The chained platform?

A body lift.

The concrete pits? Where blood from the bodies had been drained.

And the silver crucifixes above the doorways? The landlord specifically asked them not to remove them.

(🙂very normal landlord behavior)

Then, one morning, Phillip heard his mother calling him.

Except his mother was in the shower.

At first, it was simple.

“Phillip... come down here.”

Another time:

“Phillip, I've got something to show you.”

He didn't go.

Then Jennifer saw a woman standing in her bedroom.

Her arms were stretched wide. Staring directly at her.

Carmon searched the room.

Nothing.

She assumed Phillip had frightened his little sister.

Until Phillip heard what Jennifer had seen...

and looked just as terrified.

THE CRIME TIMES

Welcome to another episode of The Crime Times, your weekly dose of chilling crimes, bizarre mysteries, and stories that will make you question everything.

Keep your lights off, wear your detective hat and let’s get back to this week’s case.

Now back to the horrors…

One afternoon, Carmon was sitting in the sunroom when a man's voice suddenly called out:

“Carmon, you in here?”

She jumped up.

She thought Al had come home early.

She called back. Silence.

She searched the house. Nobody.

Then one day, while mopping the kitchen, she smelled something strange.

Copper.

She looked down at her bucket.

The water had turned dark red. Like blood.

Her feet were covered in the same substance.

So was the floor.

She cleaned it up and told herself it was something wrong with the linoleum.

Because what else was she supposed to tell herself?

The floor is bleeding? Absolutely not. 😭

THEN THEY STARTED SEEING THEM

Phillip was standing near the French doors when he saw him.

A pale man.

Long face. Sunken eyes. Black hair.

He stood on the other side of the glass, staring at Phillip.

Then a bony hand reached toward him.

The figure shimmered. And disappeared.

A few nights later, Bradley saw three men around his toy robot.

One was tall, wearing a suit and fedora. The other two were dressed in black.

The tall man picked up Bradley's robot… and smashed it against the dresser.

Bradley ran.

When Carmon checked the room, there was no one, except the robot was actually broken.

Al eventually began hearing things too.

One night, he woke up to music.

Not normal music.

It sounded like an old gramophone playing somewhere downstairs.

Then came voices. Chattering.

Like a party was happening in the basement.

He went downstairs. The boys were asleep.

The basement was empty.

The music stopped. Then a wall of freezing air hit him.

And disappeared.

The next night, his bed began vibrating.

Not shaking.

Vibrating.

Like something underneath it was moving.

Then the dog started barking at the house.

Night after night. At nothing.

And Phillip?

He was changing.

He became withdrawn. Angry.

He started mumbling to himself.

He began interacting with the voices.

Okay.

That's when I'm calling literally everyone. 😭

AND THEN THE COUSINS CAME

Phillip's cousins, Tammy and Mary, moved into the house.

Phillip already knew they were coming.

The voice had told him.

And the way it described the girls was horrifying.

It talked about how young they were.

How smooth their skin looked.

And then it told Phillip:

“Go see them tonight.” (horrific!)

The girls barely slept.

Tammy constantly felt watched.

Especially while showering or getting dressed.

Sometimes she felt someone brush past her.

There was never anyone there.

Then the voice woke Phillip one night.

It told him it was time.

This wasn't the first time he'd gone into the girls' room.

But now...

the voice told him to touch Tammy.

Two days later, Carmon came home to find the girls crying outside.

Tammy had caught Phillip trying to assault Mary.

The police took Phillip away. He was eventually diagnosed with schizophrenia and hospitalized.

And when his parents visited him, Phillip barely spoke.

He only told them one thing:

“Now I'm gone. It's going to come after you.”

And then...

the house got worse.

THE HOUSE WASN'T DONE

After Phillip was taken away, things got worse.

Three enormous explosion-like sounds shook the house.

Then their friend Tanya called. She could see the house from her own home.
Tanya saw a glowing, furious-looking woman standing in an upstairs window.

Tammy felt hands touching her.

Jennifer saw a black shadow.

Bradley heard whispers.

Alan Jr. screamed that something had stung him.

Then came the bathroom.

Tammy was inside when something pulled at her clothing.

She felt fingers moving up her legs.

She tried to open the door. It wouldn't move.

She screamed for Carmon and Al. Al tried to break the door down.

Then came the explosions. The lights flickered.

Al suddenly collapsed, screaming that he felt like he'd been stabbed.

The door finally opened.

Tammy was lying naked on the counter, crying.

She said there had been hands all over her (this is insane)

A priest came to bless the house.

After he left.

Carmon went into the kitchen.

And felt the same thing.

Hands. Touching her. Moving up her legs.

She ran to her bedroom.

The invisible force threw her onto the mattress and held her down.

Then she felt something being forced into her.

She screamed.

Tammy burst into the room.

And everything stopped.

Carmon ran to the shower.

She tried to scrub herself clean.

And while she was there...

she heard laughter. A voice mocking her.

Talking about what it wanted to do to her. And Tammy.

That was finally enough. The family needed help.

So they called...

Ed and Lorraine Warren.

Yes.

Those Warrens. 😭

THEN THEY CALLED THE WARRENS

Ed was a self-described demonologist.

Lorraine was a clairvoyant.

And when they arrived, Lorraine initially felt nothing.

Then she went into the basement.

And everything changed.

She described feeling an overwhelming darkness and helplessness.

In the old embalming room, she said she saw dead bodies, burned black.

Then she saw a man touching the bodies.

And laughing.

The Warrens believed something demonic was inside the house.

Something that wasn't simply trying to scare the family.

Something that wanted to break them down.

Frighten them.

Weaken them.

And eventually possess them.

The family began sleeping together in the living room.

The Warrens and investigators stayed for weeks.

And somehow, the house kept finding new ways to terrorize them.

Al once saw swirling lights form into an image of Jesus on a cross.

Except this wasn't the comforting Jesus you'd expect.

The figure looked distorted.

Dead.

It told Al that he couldn't help his family.

Then it fell onto him screaming and bleeding before disappearing.

Carmon later collapsed on the porch.

Her throat began swelling.

She lost consciousness.

She described entering a black world with a red circle and two decaying faces mocking her faith.

Then she saw what she described as a road filled with lost souls and negative emotions.

Al eventually reached his breaking point.

He told whatever was inside the house to leave his wife alone.

“Come into me instead.”

And whatever was there answered.

THE PRIESTS

A priest named Father George came to investigate.

He went into the basement and immediately felt something wrong.

Then he saw what looked like a black substance leaking from the wall.

It moved toward him.

He returned with another priest, Father Gary, to perform a mass.

But during the ceremony, Carmon and Tammy said they could see a dark cloud surrounding the priests.

Tammy felt hands on her legs.

She heard obscene whispers.

Another investigator, Chris, felt what he described as a cold, corpse-like hand near his body.

The mass didn't stop anything.

The following week, Tammy felt something cold brush against her.

Like a knife. Then she was cut.

Her vision disappeared.

“It's cutting me. I'm blind.”

“DO YOU KNOW WHAT THEY DID TO US?”

One night, investigator John woke up to footsteps.

The living room was freezing.

Everyone else was asleep.

He heard a voice.

“Do you know what they did?”

He grabbed his torch.

And saw a woman. She was naked, with pale purple and white skin hanging from her body and a toothless mouth.

She stared at him.

Then she asked:

“Do you know what they did to us down there?”

John called on God.

The woman smiled.

She told him she loved it.

Then she said:

“They all loved it.”

And she came running toward him.

Then everything went black.

THE EXORCISM

Eventually, the children were taken out of the house.

Father Nolan arrived to perform an exorcism.

It lasted for hours.

The family heard voices.

Felt hands touching them.

Lorraine saw flashes of white light.

Ed's chest began tightening badly, especially terrifying because he'd already suffered a heart attack.

Around four hours into the exorcism, the pain became severe.

Lorraine got him outside.

Inside, the house seemed to tilt.

Then straighten itself.

Smoke rose from the carpet.

Voices filled the rooms.

Vile sounds.

Hands.

A putrid smell.

And then...

silence.

Everything stopped.

The house felt warm again.

Bright.

Normal.

The family believed it was finally over.

Phillip was eventually released from the hospital.

And the Snedekers left.

And that's where the story ends.

The family left.

The house went quiet.

But if you were standing at the front door that night, knowing everything that had happened inside...

would you have walked in?

Or would you have run the other way?

I know my answer. 😭
